As we approach the 4th anniversary of MedTech’s founding, I congratulate you on the successes of the Association and the relationships you've formed through involvement in MedTech. Professionals representing more that half of the MedTech organizations play leadership roles in our committees, events, initiatives and projects. Just in the past year, the Association has:
> More than doubled the number of connected Upstate bioscience professionals to 67,000.
> Hosted more than two dozen programs for more than 1,000 industry professionals.
> Provided forums for members to interact with public officials who influence the industry, including:
- a roundtable with members of the State Assembly’s Science & Technology Commission,
- a luncheon with SUNY’s newly appointed Senior Vice Provost for Research, and
- a discussion with the Upstate Director from Empire State Development.
> Initiated an extensive marketing and public relations partnership with National Grid to highlight the strengths of the MedTech membership and our region.
> Brought new research investments to the region through collaborative efforts like the Clinical Collaboration Initiative.
> Embarked on a thorough web site analysis and redesign, to launch this summer.
> Actively sought input from the membership through the Voice of the Membership Study; outputs from the study are informing MedTech’s strategic planning efforts and will be shared with the membership at MEDTECH 08 this fall.
MedTech members are a unique and robust community of companies, research institutions, and service providers, all with the common goal of commercializing technologies to meet the needs of the global healthcare marketplace. Looking to the future, MedTech will focus its efforts to help you, the members, fully realize the strength of our community. Specifically, we will:
> Promote selected privately and publicly supported industry development programs.
> Take a more active role and allocate new resources toward advocacy in Albany.
> Coordinate Business Technology Exchanges to identify R&D and business development synergies between members.
> Hold Executive Roundtables to bring together senior leadership to discuss common challenges and opportunities.
> Assemble members for a roundtable discussion with Senator Charles Schumer to discuss how national resources can be deployed to benefit our industry in the region.
> Provide new online features and tools on the redesigned MedTech website.
> Partner with Greater Rochester Enterprise, Empire State Development, and other economic development groups to build a broad, collaborative network for the membership, with statewide programs targeting our industry.
MedTech is an association of, from, and for its members, so your contributions are as essential today as when MedTech was formed in 2004. Thank you to our members for making MedTech such a great success. And for other companies in Upstate New York, I invite you to join us in bringing tomorrow's medical solutions to the marketplace today.
Sincerely,
Heather Erickson, President
